Patient values guide all clinical decisions. I partner with my patients to understand their unique needs and work with them to develop a treatment plan that respects their individual circumstances and preferences.
Thomas Smith is a specialist in cardiovascular imaging utilizing multiple techniques including echocardiography (transesophageal and transthoracic), computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging to evaluate cardiac structure and function.
He completed his general cardiology fellowship here at UC Davis with additional, advanced training at Cedars Sinai. He holds the Lum and Dere Professorship in Cardiovascular Medicine and serves as the Division Chief. Additionally, he is the Clinical Director of the Heart Center, Director of the Cardiology Clinics and Director of the Adult Echocardiography Laboratory.
His clinical interests include imaging guidance of minimally invasive cardiac procedures, cardiac computed tomography, valvular heart disease and prevention of coronary artery disease.
Dr. Smith is active in multiple research studies focusing on structural heart disease. He is also involved in research studies using specialized blood tests and nuclear imaging to evaluate the heart muscle following myocardial infarctions.
