About Matthew: Matthew Lara is a native of the Sacramento region and has lived in Davis for most of his life. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Stanford University. Since a young age, Matthew has been very interested in both medicine and research, passions fostered by his parents (both healthcare professionals themselves) and by his observation of the powerful patient-physician relationships that developed in the University of California, Davis, cancer clinics where he shadowed. His research interests are primarily in oncology, with a focus on non-small cell lung cancer. In the future, he hopes to integrate his research interests with clinical practice. On his free time, Matthew enjoys playing the guitar, watching horror movies, and studying chess.
