Noreen Mansuri, ARC-MD Class of 2024, won 1st place for her poster presentation "Medical Improv: Closing the Clinical Skills Training Gaps During the COVID-19 Pandemic," at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Northern California Chapter's Residents and Medical Students Abstract Competition at Stanford. Congratulations!
Vista Farkhondeh, ARC-MD Class of 2025, received the 2022 California Medical Scholarship, sponsored by Dr. Alfonso Paredes. Vista was also accepted into the Research Education Component (REC) Scholars Program at the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), led by Oanh Meyer, M.D.. Congratulations, Vista!
Vista, has also received the Ajay Sampat, M.D. Neurology Scholars Award for Medical Students. This award, in its inaugural year, will support student participation at national neurology conferences, workshops, and leadership meetings, as well as individual scholarly projects. This Award was created to honor our beloved neurology colleague and master educator, Ajay Sampat, M.D., and to instill his passion and dedication as a medical educator for generations to come. Jade Tso, ARC-MD Class of 2025, was awarded the Sacramento Medical Society Scholarship in 2023. Samantha Wong, ARC-MD Class of 2023, was awarded the Chinese American Physicians Society 2022-2023 scholarship. She was named a winner in the prestigious 2020 Lasker Essay Contest, a global writing contest. You can read more about this award here. Gabriel Marquez-Arreguin, ARC-MD Class of 2027, has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to receive the 2024 Hematology Opportunities for the Next Generation of Research Scientists (HONORS) Award as one of 33 medical students and residents.
The ASH HONORS Award aims to support talented medical students and residents who are interested in hematology but have not yet entered a hematology-related training program. Recipients receive $5,000 to conduct hematology research projects. Each HONORS participant will have an ASH research mentor who will assist and oversee the awardee’s work and progress. Congratulations, Gabriel.
Ijeoma Uche, a first-year UC Davis medical student enrolled in the honors pathway, Academic Research Careers for Medical Doctors (ARC-MD), has been selected as one of the National Minority Quality Forum's 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health for 2024! This prestigious recognition by the NMQF, the nation's largest minority healthcare research, education, and advocacy organization, underscores Ijeoma's passion and dedication to amplifying community voices to reduce perinatal health disparities and to improve outcomes for BIPOC communities while innovatively leveraging technology and digital health solutions. Each year, the NMQF identifies 40 exceptional leaders from minoritized populations under the age of 40 who are spearheading efforts to enhance patient outcomes and build sustainable, healthy communities. These individuals, including clinicians, patient advocates, researchers, and policy influencers, embody resilience and determination in their endeavors to address health disparities within our healthcare system. Ms. Uche is mentored by Susan Brown, M.D. and Jennifer Rosenthal, M.D.. We extend our sincerest congratulations to Ijeoma on this honor.
As part of a 5-person team, Ijeoma was awarded the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Telehealth Equity Catalyst Award for their proposal, “Reducing Postpartum Disparities for Black Birthing People through Telehealth.”
Ijeoma was recently awarded a NIH Diversity Supplement recently.
