Safety Management
The Safety Management unit collaborates with faculty, staff and students to improve research safety culture and compliance and serves as a liaison to Environmental Health & Safety and regulatory agencies.
2024–2025 Accomplishments
Expansion and Staffing
- Aggie Square opened, expanding operational scope
- .Expanded the safety team from two to three officers.
- New hire for Davis campus
- Transitioned experienced officer to Aggie Square
Hazard Mitigation
- Coordinated evacuation and plumbing flush at Research 1 for VOC odor incident.
- Managed recovery and insurance claims over power outages.
- Multiple emergency responses across campuses.
Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinated fire drills at Tupper Hall and GBSF
- Participated in AOD emergency training in Sacramento.
- Conducted Hazard Vulnerability Analyses.
Materials Management
- Oversaw the transition of medical waste services from Stericycle to Clean Harbors.
- Safe disposal of legacy chemicals, unknowns, and chemotherapy waste.
- Lab cleanouts for multiple faculty members.
- Decommissioned Body Donation Program space safely.
