The Division of Geriatrics, Hospice & Palliative Medicine

Welcome to the Division of Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Medicine. We are not just a primary care clinic for elderly patients.  The approach and goals are different than primary care.  The emphasis is on FUNCTION, and not just medical diagnosis.  Whereas a general internal medicine clinic focuses on disease management, geriatrics focuses on patient management.  With many of our patients, medical diagnoses are of secondary concern, while we address functional issues, including safety, nutrition, abuse or medication management.

We partner with the UC Davis Healthy Aging Clinic. Awarded age-friendly designation, the multispecialty team of providers and staff of the Healthy Aging Clinic are committed to the health and well-being of older adults. These include cognitive neurology, neuropsychology, nursing, dietary planning, pharmacy and social work. Learn more about the Healthy Aging Clinic.

Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program

Part of our all-emcompassing care is the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship program. This fellowship is jointly administered by UC Davis Health System, VA Northern CA Health Care System, and Kaiser Permanente.

While much of our program information and details are listed here, we strongly urge you to contact us or visit us in Northern California and learn about who we are, what we do, and how you might join us.

We are an ACGME Accredited program and accept four (4) fellows in Hospice and Palliative Medicine on a yearly basis. Fellowship start date is July 15.  Our one (1) year program is designed to allow for a combination of clinical experiences and of creative/research/elective time to fulfill the training requirements for Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The program is designed for Diplomates of the American Boards of Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry and Neurology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. We also have an option for a second research year for highly motivated candidates who are interested in pursuing further academic endeavors. Click here to learn more about the program.
