Every day, 10,000 Americans turn 65 years old. As people age and life expectancy increases, so do the challenges that come with aging. Our team of geriatric, hospice and palliative care experts provide interdisciplinary team-based care to improve the health and well-being for frail, multicomplex older adults across care settings. The division is also home for scholarly work and education in clinical work and aging-related research. Our team collaborates with researchers who study issues affecting older adults, clinicians and educators at the UC Davis School of Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis and the community at large.
In the 2022–23 survey of nearly 5,000 medical centers nationwide, U.S. News & World Report ranked UC Davis Health’s geriatric program #23 in the nation based on patient outcomes, key programs and above average patient experience. We are also home to three geriatric-focused fellowship programs to mentor fellows toward a leadership role in the field of geriatrics. Part of the Healthy Aging Initiative and home to the one-stop Healthy Aging Clinic, the Division of Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Medicine works together to meet our over-65 patients and their caregivers where they are, whether in a clinic or at home.
