Division of Hematology and Oncology
The Division of Hematology and Oncology and the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center have enjoyed a period of tremendous growth over the past two decades. From six faculty members in the early nineties, we have grown to be one of the largest divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine with 35 faculty members, including 21 clinician-scientists, with expertise that covers the breadth of hematology and medical oncology. Disease areas of particular clinical and research expertise include thoracic, genitourinary, breast, hematological, and gastrointestinal malignancies. Division faculty are also leaders in hemophilia, sickle cell, and thrombosis research. The division houses the faculty leaders of the Cancer Control, Regenerative Medicine, and PET imaging programs.
For the individual patient all this growth and activity translates to access to cutting edge treatment for cancer and blood disorders. However, the Division not only attends to the physical aspects of care, but also the psychological and emotional impact of cancer. Division faculty participate in research related to cancer education, symptom control, and effective physician-patient communication. All of our efforts are ultimately focused on providing the optimal care for patients in the Sacramento region, and improving the outcome for all patients with cancer and blood disorders.
