Educational Continuous Quality Improvement Workgroup

Element 1.1, Strategic Planning and Continuous Quality Improvement, requires medical schools to engage in “ongoing strategic planning and continuous quality improvement processes that establish its short and long-term programmatic goals, result in the achievement of measurable outcomes that are used to improve educational program quality, and ensure effective monitoring of the medical education program’s compliance with accreditation standards.” To ensure there was a process in place for on-going review and monitoring of our accreditation compliance, the School of Medicine created the Educational Continuous Quality Improvement (ECQI) Working Group. The ECQI Working group is composed of the following members:

  • Associate Dean for Workforce Innovation and Education Quality Improvement (co-chair)
  • Director of Assessment, Evaluation, and Scholarship (co-chair)
  • Vice Dean of Medical Education
  • Associate Dean of Curriculum
  • Associate Dean of Students
  • Assistant Dean of Medical Education
  • Chair of the Faculty Executive Committee (or delegate)
  • Chair of the Committee on Educational Policy (or vice chair)
  • Chair of the Admissions Steering Committee
  • Chair of the Committee on Student Promotions
  • Medical Student Representative
  • Medical Resident Representative
  • Director of Curriculum and Educational Technology
  • Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Retention
  • Director of Student and Administrative Services
  • Associate Dean of Student and Resident Diversity

The ECQI Working Group will meet at minimum quarterly, with the potential addition of ad-hoc meetings if deemed necessary by the group to address specific issues. The group is tasked with:

  • identify which LCME elements require continued monitoring;
  • define the appropriate timing of element monitoring;
  • review the results of the monitoring;
  • determine which individuals/groups should receive the results of the monitoring;
  • determine which individuals/groups should be responsible for taking action; and
  • monitor the outcomes of the actions.

All decisions and outcomes of the working groups reviews are shared with the Dean of the School of Medicine.
