A Message from Dr. Temitayo Oyegbile-Chidi, Vice-Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The UC Davis Neurology Residency program prides itself on prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in its resident and fellow evaluation process. This program proactively recruits applicants from diverse backgrounds to ensure we mirror the rich diversity of California. Not only is it important to recruit diverse residents and fellows, but also providing a welcoming and inclusive environment is an essential part of the process. One of my goals as Vice Chair of DEI is to lead the effort in creating a supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to flourish regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or religion.

As our department continues to grow, we address any challenges associated with DEI in a way that builds bridges within our shared humanity and creates space for thoughtful, strategic, and sustainable discussion. My personal philosophy is that a diverse and inclusive environment not only creates space for all, but also encourages full and equitable participation. As a consequence, we continually work on fostering inclusivity by working with colleagues, residents, fellows, and students to develop programs and workshops that create opportunities to deepen mutual understanding and increase work collaboration in a safe environment.

Our ultimate goal focuses on the creation of a workplace where diversity, equity and inclusion is the norm with a high level of engagement and career satisfaction.
