Philosophy of Care

I am a hematopathologist who specializes in diagnosing diseases of the blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes and spleen, including leukemias, lymphomas, and related conditions. My work involves careful examination of tissue, blood, and bone marrow samples, integrating advanced laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry and molecular testing to provide accurate and timely diagnoses that guide treatment decisions. I am committed to delivering precise, compassionate, and patient-centered care in close collaboration with your clinical team. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family and love to paint with my kiddo.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Datta Mitra is an academic hematopathologist with comprehensive clinical responsibility for the diagnosis of benign and malignant hematologic disorders. Her clinical interests and expertise include bone marrow and lymphoid pathology, flow cytometry, and the integration of molecular and cytogenetic testing into hematopathologic diagnosis. She has additional specialized skills in translational hematopathology, quality oversight, and the implementation of advanced diagnostic technologies in clinical hematology laboratories.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Datta Mitra’s scholarly interests broadly focus on advancing diagnostic precision, value-based care, and education in academic pathology. Her research emphasizes hematopathology, tumor immunobiology, and molecular diagnostics, including studies of PD-L1 expression in lymphoma, multiparametric flow cytometry in cytopenias, clonal hematopoiesis, and the application of digital pathology and machine learning to clinical practice. She is also deeply engaged in trainee mentorship and high-value care initiatives, leading IRB-approved translational and quality improvement projects that integrate innovative technologies to improve patient outcomes and laboratory efficiency at UC Davis Health.
