
Affiliate Scholars engaged or interested in cancer focused research, clinical care, and/or community engagement and outreach. Affiliate Scholars are able to access to resources, mentorship, and a network of experts to advance cancer-related research and initiatives with an aim to foster collaboration, enhance research capabilities, and support professional development.
Affiliate Scholars are postdoctoral scholars, staff research associates, graduate students, and undergraduates, enrolled or appointed at UC Davis and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). UC Davis and LLNL Affiliate Scholars are divided into 3 category levels:
Scholar is a UC Davis or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory student or employee in a non-faculty role (examples include postdoctoral scholars, fellows, graduate students, undergraduates, and staff research associates) and is engaged in cancer- focused research, clinical care, and/or community engagement and outreach under the guidance of a cancer center member. Individuals in this category are automatically granted affiliate status (no application needed). Affiliation is reviewed every two years.

Scholars must meet two eligibility categories to be accepted. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.
High school students interested in learning more about cancer research and cancer-related career tracks are invited to become UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center High School Affiliate Scholars. High School Affiliate Scholars receive regular communications about career paths in cancer, spotlighting cancer professionals and how their work impacts discovery, treatment, and prevention of cancer. They are informed about experiential learning opportunities and can participate in online and in-person Cancer Center programming.

The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center recognizes and supports scholars in their research through recognition awards and conference travel support. Applicants must be Affiliate Scholars to be eligible to apply.
This award recognizes undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral UC Davis Affiliate Scholars for outstanding research, policy, clinical care, and community impact, granting three annual awards with a certificate and $500 prize.
Open to undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral UC Davis Affiliate Scholars, this fellowship supports early-career cancer researchers with $1,500 to lead independent projects and gain experience in proposal writing and funding. Three awards are granted annually in the fields of Integrated Cancer Biology, Cancer Therapeutics, Biotechnology, and Population Sciences and Cancer Control.
The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center accepts applications for travel awards to support cancer-related research presentations at conferences or annual meetings. Awards may be used for airfare, hotel, meals, ground transportation, and registration fees. One award up to $1,000 is available for undergraduate students and two awards up to $2,000 for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are offered annually
