As a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, I work within a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment plans for patients with breast cancer that incorporate the most relevant and recent data from clinical trials. It is essential that these treatment plans also incorporate the preferences of my patients. Breast cancer can be an overwhelming diagnosis, but it is my goal to effectively explain the surgical options that exist and make personalized recommendations based on tumor biology and each patient's priorities. I always seek to present surgical options with an understanding of how they may relate to radiation and medical oncology decisions. I perform nipple-sparing mastectomies, skin-sparing mastectomies, total mastectomies with aesthetic flat closure, partial mastectomies (lumpectomies), sentinel lymph node biopsy, targeted axillary dissections, and axillary dissections. I work closely with plastic surgeons to tailor reconstructive options to my patients' preferences. I partner with my patients to develop surgical plans that respect oncologic principles and individual choice.
Dr. Glencer is a clinically active breast surgical oncologist who cares for patients with breast cancer and high-risk breast lesions. She has special clinical interest and experience in treating patients with inflammatory breast cancer, patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer, and patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
Dr. Glencer has previously conducted research designed to characterize the tumor immune microenvironment of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and has investigated the use of a novel mRNA-based intralesional therapy to treat high-risk DCIS. She has also published results of an active surveillance strategy used in managing patients with DCIS. She has presented and published work investigating the multidisciplinary management of inflammatory breast cancer and of outcomes among patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy who achieve a pathologic complete response (pCR). She is the UC Davis site principal investigator for the WISDOM trial, which is a study evaluating a personalized approach to breast cancer screening that incorporates genetic, biomarker, and clinical risk factors as an alternative to standard annual mammogram.
