An Accelerated Path

The Accelerated Competency-based Education in Primary Care (ACE-PC) and the Rural Accelerated Competency-based Education in Primary Care and Psychiatry (Rural ACE-PCP) pathways immerse students in longitudinal primary care practice as they complete their medical degree within a three-year curriculum. Students in each accelerated program will start 6 weeks earlier than the traditional cohort and continue learning during the summer after their first year. ACE / Rural ACE students will have the same winter and spring breaks as their standard-paced peers.

The third year of longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) has been shown to prepare students as well as traditional block clerkships while increasing students’ sense of patient-centeredness and confidence. LICs provide students a meaningful continuity of care experience and the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with preceptors, while simultaneously meeting the clinical competencies of multiple clerkships.

Rural ACE-PC students will be immersed in primary care clinical experiences in the target counties (Nevada, Shasta, or Humboldt) during summer immersion and during the 4 weeks of I-FOSTER in the summer between Year 1-2. Additionally, Rural ACE-PC students will be placed in the target counties for 6 months out of the LIC.
