ACE-PC and Rural ACE-PCP Curriculum
ACE Curriculum:
The ACE-PC curriculum immerses students in a longitudinal primary care practice as they complete their MD within a three-year curriculum. As shown in the figure below, the students start 6 weeks early, continue learning during the summer after first year and have less time dedicated to preparing for the Step exams but have the same winter and spring breaks as traditional students.
The third year is longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) which has been shown to prepare students as well as traditional block clerkships while increasing students’ sense of patient-centeredness and confidence. LICs provide students a meaningful continuity of care experience and the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with preceptors, while simultaneously meeting the clinical competencies of multiple clerkships.

Rural ACE Curriculum:
The Rural ACE-PC curriculum immerses students in a longitudinal primary care practice as they complete their MD within a three-year curriculum. As shown in the figure below, the students start 6 weeks early, continue learning during the summer after first year and have less time dedicated to preparing for the Step exams but have the same winter and spring breaks as traditional students. Rural ACE-PC students will be immersed in PC clinical experiences in the target counties (Nevada & Shasta) during the summer immersion and during the 4 weeks of I-FOSTER in the summer between Year 1 and Year 2.
Rural ACE-PC students will be placed in the target counties for 6 months out of the LIC.
