Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Berglund is currently Interim Dean of the UC Davis School of Medicine. He is also Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at UC Davis, and has led the UC Davis School of Medicine research enterprise since 2008.

Dr. Berglund served as the director of the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) from its inception in 2006 until 2017, and has been very active in building an extensive collaborative framework. Previously he was the program director for the UC Davis GCRC, funded in 2004.

Dr. Berglund has served as PI for several NIH R01 grants and has worked in the area of lipoprotein metabolism, vascular disease, and HIV for more than 20 years. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and reviews, most of which have resulted from mechanistic, patient-oriented studies.

He is a member of the editorial boards of several journals, has chaired NIH and AHA study sections, and participated in several Endocrine Society guidelines committees as well as in the National Academies Steering Committee for the Decadal Survey on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space.

Dr. Berglund served as an inaugural co-chair of the CTSA Consortium's Oversight Committee, and was closely involved in strategic planning.
