Envisioning a "campus in a park," the Exterior Design Guidelines establish an ecological, pedestrian-friendly environment at UC Davis Health. The architecture provides a cohesive backdrop, while nature, landscapes and art take center stage. Unified through consistent building elements and embracing the theme "To Boldy Go" (please refer to the Campus Design Vision for more details), the guidelines foster a harmonious blend of built and natural spaces, sustainability and innovative design.
The Interior Design Guidelines aim for a unified patient experience across UC Davis Health facilities. Using consistent design elements like materials, textures, patterns and colors creates a seamless flow from the lobby to patient rooms, fostering a strong sense of connection. This approach empowers designers to deliver an engaging user experience aligned with UC Davis Health's design goals.

This Master Signage Standards Manual & Guideline was developed to ensure that all UC Davis Health signs are presented in a consistent way across all buildings and properties for both brand value and user experience. This document provides instruction for acceptable implementation of the signage program, as well as guidance on various options and variance requests. It includes identification and wayfinding signs, code and regulatory signs (including mandated postings), acceptable logos, fonts, colors and other elements related to signage.
The Site Design Guidelines document delves deep into understanding the existing conditions and providing specific recommendations for exterior design elements like Planting and Landscape System, Exterior Materials including furnishing, Site lighting, Public Art and Green Infrastructure. This document embodies the contextual framework for UC Davis Health Site Guidelines. Even though the Sacramento site is the base for many of the analysis and planning studies in this document, the principles apply to other Northern California UCDH locations. The intent is not for this to be a master-planning document. Hence, scenarios at different locations around the site are studied to build a foundation, upon which the guidelines can be conceived and built. From macro to micro scale, guidelines without a context and without it being grounded in the nature of the place, may not provide much relevance.
