U.S. News ranks UC Davis Medical Center among nation’s best

UC Davis Medical Center is again named No. 1 hospital in Sacramento

UC Davis Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading hospitals for outstanding patient care, according to the 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report prestigious Best Hospitals survey.

As the region’s only comprehensive level 1 trauma center for both adult and pediatric patients, UC Davis Medical Center ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Sacramento and No. 8 in California. It has been the No. 1 hospital in Sacramento for at least the last 13 years and among the Top 10 in the state for over a decade.

Medical center ranked among top 50 hospitals nationwide in 8 adult specialties

At No. 15, ear, nose and throat was the medical center’s highest-ranked specialty, followed by geriatrics (No. 24), pulmonology and lung surgery (No. 24).

Five other specialties also placed in the nation’s top 50: neurology and neurosurgery (No. 28), cardiology and heart & vascular surgery (No. 35), cancer (No. 37), orthopedics (No. 39) and diabetes and endocrinology (No. 41).

U.S. News also rated the medical center’s services in gastroenterology and GI surgery as “high performing.” That means the hospital scored in the top 10% of all hospitals rated for those specialty areas.

UC Davis Medical Center was also rated “high performing,” the highest rating possible, for its quality of care in 14 common adult procedures and conditions:

  • Acute Kidney Failure
  • Colon Cancer Surgery
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Gynecological Cancer Surgery
  • Heart Attack
  • Heart Failure
  • Hip Fracture
  • Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma
  • Lung Cancer Surgery
  • Pneumonia
  • Prostate Cancer Surgery
  • Spinal Fusion
  • Stroke
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Its team of data journalists analyzes millions of hospital visits and admissions to identify the best hospitals in 15 adult specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. U.S. News also publishes an Honor Roll to recognize hospitals that perform exceptionally well across many of these specialties, procedures and conditions.
