Philosophy of Care

My guiding principles of patient care are as follows :

  1. Respect - I accept that you, as a patient, are primarily a unique human being and that your needs and expectations may be different to others. I promise to respect your autonomy and your dignity. I try always to see things from your point of view- which understandably, I might not achieve at our first meeting, but I will try nonetheless.
  2. Information - I want you to be heavily involved with your diagnosis and treatment. I will strive to give you all the information you need to make a decision. I will help to curate the information you already come to me with. I want you to understand your condition and treatment plan. Granted that this may not always be easy and that this may even take a few clinical encounters to achieve. And that’s OK.
  3. Safety - Keeping my patients safe is paramount in my practice. Know that I am obsessively striving to keeping you safe while under my care. Rarely, despite stringent safety practices in place, things can go wrong. If that happens, I promise to be there for you.
  4. Knowledge and Skills - I feel strongly that I owe it to my patients to keep my skill, my techniques, and my knowledge up to date -as every patient deserves the best that modern medicine has to offer. To that end, I attend national and international conferences and webinars, participate in cadaver workshops, read scientific journals, watch surgical videos, visit other surgeons and generally analyse everything I do to make sure I am doing the best for my patients.
