Our fetal care specialists treat severe health conditions before birth (in utero). Early treatment may save your baby’s life and prevent future disability. We provide advanced fetal surgery for some developmental disorders, tumors and problems that arise in utero.

Our researchers work constantly to advance the field of fetal care. We are part of a groundbreaking national clinical trial that combines fetal surgery and stem cell treatment. This new approach could improve the outlook for children with spina bifida.
UC Davis Health is home to the first procedure to implant a leadless, retrievable pacemaker in a child. Our specialists implant the device through a vein in your child's neck, where it travels to their heart. With no wires (leads), this pacemaker can be easily removable for battery replacement. This new device helps regulate heart rate for children with rare congenital heart conditions.
