It is an honor to serve patients and their families. I believe that effective, compassionate subspecialty pediatric care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults happens within the context of an enduring partnership with each patient and their family members. Whether treating a previously-healthy patient for a cough or helping to coordinate the care of a patient with multiple complex respiratory conditions, my goal is to match my patient's and their family's goals with the medical therapies most likely to contribute to their quality of life, health, growth, development, and sense of well-being.
While pediatric pulmonologists are sometimes referred to as "lung specialists," I also like to think of us as "breathing specialists" because we consider how each organ system affects healthy breathing. I try to remember that each patient and family is unique so that we can all understand a child's (or adolescent's) breathing better, find the scientific evidence-based treatment options that best meet a patient's needs and their family's goals and develop an enduring therapeutic partnership.
The effective care of respiratory disorders requires a team, and I am fortunate to work with a supportive group of multidisciplinary health professionals including other physician specialists, nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, and social workers.
Outside of the hospital, my family and I enjoy cooking, hiking, and spending time with our dogs.
Dr. Kamerman-Kretzmer ("Dr. Rory") is a pediatric pulmonologist offering care for children with respiratory conditions or disorders of the lungs and breathing. His interests include aerodigestive disorders, the pulmonary effects of prematurity and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), asthma, cystic fibrosis (CF), pulmonary hypertension, the care of children dependent upon technology (such as long-term or home mechanical ventilation), rare lung disease (including childhood interstitial lung disease), and the use of flexible bronchoscopy to diagnose airway problems. He also assists in the care of children with leukodystrophies if they require a pulmonologist.
Dr. Kamerman-Kretzmer has participated in research teams studying long-term (home) ventilation, telehealth, asthma, and rare breathing and lung disorders. Because there is a shortage of pediatric pulmonologists in practice, he also has a passion for teaching pediatric respiratory medicine to students, physicians-in-training, and other health professionals.
