Radiology Engagement, Development and Impact Program
At UC Davis Radiology, we believe in the power of community and positive culture.
At UC Davis Radiology, we believe in better.
We are committed to building an environment where teamwork and mutual respect are at the forefront of everything we do. Guided by our belief that excellence in patient care, education, and research is enriched by diverse perspectives and experiences, we actively work to cultivate a welcoming, civil, and inclusive community for our faculty, staff, trainees, and patients alike.
UC Davis Department of Radiology Development and Engagement Initiatives
At UC Davis Radiology, we believe that better understanding of (and for) each of us leads to better health for all of us.
Open to faculty, staff and trainees, the mission of the UC Davis Radiology Engagement, Development and Impact (R.E.D.I.) Committee is to promote a departmental culture of belonging and empowerment which recognizes and appreciates diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, needs, ideals, experiences, talents and contributions. Through continual self-reflection and shared learning, and with a focus on excellence, the R.E.D.I. Committee aims to equip the Department for its vital role in leading just and equity-informed research, education, patient care and outreach in radiology and the imaging sciences.
We value respect, integrity, compassion, and courage.

The Radiology and Imaging Sciences Scholars (RaISS) outreach program at UC Davis Department of Radiology is a pathway initiative designed to bring meaningful experiences to community college and early undergraduate students interested in possible careers in the medical field. Through mentorship, hands-on research experiences, and professional development opportunities, the program introduces students to the fields of radiology and imaging sciences. RaISS aims to inspire the next generation of leaders in academic medicine by fostering early exposure, skill-building, and a strong sense of community. This program reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to advancing opportunity, access, and excellence in healthcare and science.
The UC Davis School of Medicine received a two-year ChangeMedEd grant from the American Medical Association to help develop a toolkit focused on helping other institutions improve their medical school admissions practices. The UC Davis School of Medicine has received national attention for its more holistic approach to evaluating applicants — balancing traditional academic metrics with broader indicators of potential and purpose, such as life experiences, socioeconomic background, and community ties.
The research team, co-led by Shadi Shakeri — Chair of the School of Medicine Admissions Committee and Head of the Division of Breast Imaging at the UC Davis Department of Radiology — aims to help other schools broaden the pathways into medicine for all and ensure the next generation of medical professions is well-equipped to serve their communities.
Bringing together, future, current, and past colleagues from the UC Davis Department of Radiology, this annual event highlights women’s contributions to radiology locally and beyond. In addition, it provides an opportunity for exploration of shared experiences and networking.
