The UC Davis Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency is designed around a comprehensive curriculum offering opportunities for experience in all aspects of diagnostic radiology (DR) as well as interventional radiology (IR) procedures and peri-procedural care via a full-service IR consultation service and clinic practice. We have our own admitting service.

interventional radiology integrated residency During the first three years of the program (IR1-IR3), residents rotate primarily through the various sections of the diagnostic radiology residency program, typically receiving approximately six months of IR experience throughout three years. During the IR4 and IR5 years, residents will primarily rotate through the interventional radiology services at UC Davis Medical Center and Kaiser South Sacramento.

The senior (IR5) resident is expected to run the IR service, leading daily morning rounds, participating in all conferences, including multidisciplinary conferences, M and M, and interventional radiology operations.

Our curriculum includes weekly lectures, journal clubs, and case conferences. We participate in regional angio club and collaborate with our veterinary colleagues. Our residents are supported to present their research at conferences.

The residency is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Graduates of the IR-integrated residency program are qualified to sit for the IR/DR examination offered by the American Board of Radiology to receive the IR/DR certificate, recognizing competence in both diagnostic and interventional radiology. Certificate holders may practice both diagnostic and interventional radiology.

We are pleased to offer this accelerated pathway to current residents in the UC Davis diagnostic radiology residency program who have expressed interest in specializing in IR. IR and IR-related experiences are emphasized in the R4 year of diagnostic radiology. Residents completing this pathway are eligible for advanced placement into an IR-independent residency program. Application into this pathway typically occurs during the R2 year of diagnostic radiology residency.

Applications for the integrated and independent IR residency programs must be submitted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please see the ERAS website for more details regarding application dates. Personal interviews are granted by invitation only. Interviews are typically scheduled for December and January, after the application is complete and prior to the final selection process. For further information about the UC Davis IR residency programs, please contact our program coordinators.
