The UC Davis Medical Center Vascular Laboratories are accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). The ICAVL offers accreditation for each of the testing areas that a vascular laboratory performs. The UC Davis Vascular Laboratory first sought ICAVL accreditation in 1993 and has continually maintained accreditation since that time.
Both of the UC Davis Medical Center sites — the Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center and the main hospital — are ICVAL-accredited in cerebrovascular, venous, peripheral arterial and visceral vascular testing. No other Sacramento vascular laboratory is accredited in all four of these areas; and only a handful of labs are accredited in all four areas in all of California.
ICAVL accreditation is recognized as certification that the Vascular Laboratory meets established standards of quality in vascular testing. The accreditation process considers what kind of equipment a laboratory uses, how it is maintained, testing protocols, reporting procedures, training and qualifications of the staff, and the quality-assurance processes that are in place. Meeting or exceeding the nationally-recognized standards of quality, vascular testing at UC Davis Medical Center is done by trained and credentialed vascular technologists, using state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging and noninvasive vascular testing systems.
