Philosophy of Care

Dr. Cameron Gaskill, MD MPH FACS FSSO believes in a compassionate and personalized approach to pancreas and hepatobiliary cancer surgery. He leads a multi-disciplinary team to provide data-driven and innovative treatment to achieve the highest quality cancer care for his patients and their families.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Gaskill is fellowship-trained and board-certified in complex general surgical oncology. He is the Section Chief for Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery and specializes in the treatment of patients with cancers of the liver, bile duct, pancreas, and duodenum. He has a special clinical interest and expertise in complex surgical care, surgical innovation, and robotic techniques, bring cutting edge treatments to patients at UC Davis. Dr. Gaskill is passionate about increasing access to advanced cancer care to patients throughout Northern California and abroad. 

Outside the hospital, Dr. Gaskill enjoys sailing and skiing with his wife and daughters. He is a volunteer physician ski patroller in north Lake Tahoe.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Gaskill's research strives to advance early detection and treatment of pancreatic and hepatobiliary malignancies through clinical trials and quality improvement. He serves on the executive board of the University of California Pancreatic Cancer Research Consortium (link), is the Chair of the UC Davis Committee on Cancer, and is the NSQIP HPB service-line champion. Dr. Gaskill has published more than 40 scientific manuscripts and serves on the editorial board of Journal of Surgical Oncology.

In addition, Dr. Gaskill is the Director of the UC Davis Center for Global Surgery. He leads multiple global collaborations dedicated to improving the quality of cancer surgery in low-resource countries. His projects span sub-Saharan Africa, Central America, and Asia and include clinical programs, building education and research capacity, and international advocacy. He is an adjunct professor of surgery at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
