Many policies, procedures and programs are in place to proactively educate our workforce in monitoring for and reporting any safety concerns. The Mandatory Annual Training (MAT) handbook (PDF) provides detailed safety information across all areas of the heath system.
Most safety-related services are provided by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Health Physics. Services are available by calling the numbers listed, referring to the campus phone directory, or emailing EHS at hs-safety@ucdavis.edu. The UC Davis Health Safety Management Plan guides the implementation of the safety program, including plans for injury and illness prevention, exposure to airborne hazards and blood-borne pathogens, prevention of ergonomic injuries, and safety measures for other common hazards. Copies of the Safety Management Plan are available on the Environmental Health and Safety website or by calling EHS.
The Safety Management program at UC Davis School of Medicine is responsible for providing a safe workplace by minimizing the potential hazards to faculty, staff, students and visitors. The Safety Management program sets the standards for safety management and complements individual laboratory safety programs and activities. The unit is housed in the School of Medicine Office of Research.
Body mechanics maintenance includes supporting neutral postures while operating a computer either sitting or standing. Learn how to adjust your workstation monitor, keyboard/mouse, and chair with the Cardinus Healthy Working or Healthy Working @ Home Programs. The courses, “Healthy Working: Ergonomics”, course code DAHS-ERGO-ECO, and “Healthy Working @ Home” for remote workstations, course code DAHS-HWAH, are both located in UC Learning. The self-evaluation questionnaires are intended to provide staff with education about ergonomic principles and to increase comfort while working. The self-evaluation should be completed and shared with one’s supervisor to assure appropriate adjustments are made to the workstation.
