Philosophy of Care

Dr. Kim believes that caring for chronic inflammatory skin disease is a long-term partnership. He takes time to understand how conditions such as psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa affect each patient's daily life, explains the reasoning behind every treatment option in plain language, and builds a plan together with the patient rather than for them. Because he is also a laboratory scientist, he brings the newest evidence and clinical trial opportunities directly to the bedside. His goal is not only to clear the skin, but to keep it clear — and to help each patient feel confident in their own skin again.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Kim is a board-certified dermatologist in both the United States and South Korea. As a physician-scientist, he is dedicated to advancing translational dermatology research, with a particular focus on psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. His work aims to bridge scientific discovery and clinical care to improve treatment options and outcomes for patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Kim's research investigates why chronic inflammatory skin diseases recur after treatment, with the long-term goal of achieving durable, drug-free remission. His NIH-funded laboratory applies single-cell and spatial transcriptomic technologies to human skin to define the immune mechanisms of psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa and to identify biomarkers that predict treatment response. He also leads investigator-initiated clinical trials of biologic agents targeting the IL-23/Th17 axis.
