UC Davis student volunteers are currently enrolled at the University of California, Davis, and want to receive extra credit for their schooling.
UC Davis students who volunteer dedicate their time and skills to support various functions and services of UC Davis Health. Numerous opportunities are available to these students, including roles in student-run clinics, individual placements, inpatient care units, and non-inpatient care units.
UC Davis students interested in volunteering at UC Davis Health are to contact the Internship and Career Center office on campus at 530-752-2855 for placement information.
Volunteering in an inpatient area provides a unique chance to have a significant impact. You will be assigned to one of our various patient care units, but not limited to cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, ICU units, or transplant, to name a few.
As a volunteer in the UC Davis Health Emergency Department (ED), you will be assigned to one of several areas, or "pods," where you'll support a range of roles aimed at assisting our staff and enhancing patients' experiences during their visit.
The ED operates in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and high-pressure environment. Volunteering in this dynamic setting will expose you to various aspects of emergency care, so it’s essential to remain calm and composed. You may encounter injuries and trauma that could be outside your usual experiences.
Volunteers are expected to treat everyone with respect, compassion, and hospitality, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or background. Promoting gracious interactions while maintaining confidentiality of all ED, hospital, and patient information is vital, even when you're off-duty.
Volunteers can contribute their time and provide invaluable support to patients and staff at UC Davis Health in numerous ways. Other opportunities for UC Davis students include roles in radiology, bariatric surgery, research labs, physical therapy, and many different areas.
Student-run clinics are for undergraduate students who would like to volunteer and are planning careers in healthcare. Volunteering in the student-run clinics provides an early opportunity for hands-on training otherwise unavailable to them. Undergraduate student volunteers can be interpreters, patient advocates, receptionists, and lab workers. For more information on Student Run Clinics click here.
