Volunteer Requirements

Health Requirements

If you are accepted to volunteer at UC Davis Health, you must provide proof of the immunizations listed below. Volunteers may visit their provider or the Student Health and Wellness Center to meet the health requirements. Please note: multiple visits may be required.

  1. Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR): proof of two vaccinations or a positive blood titer.
  2. Varicella (Chicken Pox): proof of two vaccinations or a positive blood titer.
  3. Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDAP): These must have been administered after 2005, including the booster for pertussis or whooping cough.
  4. Flu Shot: Required during flu season: Unfortunately, UC Davis Health Volunteer Services can not accept declination letters or the option of wearing a mask. You may choose to volunteer after the flu season has ended.
  5. Tuberculosis (TB) Requirements (volunteers must complete options A, B, or C):  
    • Option A: Two negative TB skin tests: one within the last three months and one within the previous year.
    • Option B: One negative QuantiFERON (QFT) Blood Test within the last three months.
    • Option C: One negative Chest X-ray report completed within the last three months if you have a positive TB skin test (must provide proof of positive skin test results). You will be referred for a TB symptom interview.

You must be at least 18 years old at the time of registration.

  1. Onboarding: Complete the volunteer onboarding process. This includes an online orientation video, background check, application submission, in-person meeting, and signing acknowledgment and agreement forms.
  2. Time Commitment: Volunteers are required a minimum commitment of 3 to 6 months (depending on assignment), volunteering 4 hours 1 day per week, same day and time each week.
  3. Health Requirements: Volunteers must have the proper immunizations listed above.
  4. $25 Processing Fee: This fee helps offset the rising cost of volunteer onboarding and placement. For more information please see Frequently Asked Questions.

Note: Opportunities to serve UC Davis Health pediatric patients require that volunteers be 18 years old and older.

You must be at least 16 years old at the time of registration.

  1. Onboarding: Complete the volunteer onboarding process. This includes an online orientation video, background check (teen volunteers are required to complete a background check. The parent or guardian must submit background check authorization for the teen volunteer), application submission, in-person meeting (minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian), and signing acknowledgment and agreement forms. You will need to provide the following:
    • Most recent school transcripts to verify your GPA is 2.5 or above.
    • A letter of recommendation from a school counselor or instructor.
    • Parental permission form.
  2. Time Commitment: Volunteers are required a minimum commitment of 3 to 6 months (depending on assignment), volunteering 4 hours 1 day per week, same day and time each week.
