Types of Urologic Surgery

Our dedicated urologists perform the full range of urologic surgeries, including the latest robotic and minimally invasive approaches. These techniques offer smaller incisions and a faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

Blue Light Cystoscopy (BLC)

This procedure uses special blue light to identify bladder cancer that might be missed with standard cystoscopy. This light allows doctors to clearly see and remove all of the tumor.

Cystectomy

Cystectomy is removal of all or part of the bladder to treat advanced bladder cancer. We create a new way for your body to store and pass urine, often with a neobladder made from your own tissue.

Endourology Procedures

Endourology uses minimally invasive techniques to treat kidney stones and other blockages in the urinary system. These procedures usually require no outside incisions, so you have less pain and a faster recovery.

Focal Therapy for Prostate Cancer

This technique directly targets early stage prostate cancer without harming surrounding tissue. Our focal therapy options include high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and cryotherapy (cold energy).

Nephrectomy

Our team uses the latest techniques to remove kidney cancer. We specialize in robotic-assisted techniques, which offer the highest precision and smallest incisions.

Robotic-Assisted Prostatectomy

Our team has decades of experience performing robotic-assisted prostatectomy for prostate cancer. This minimally invasive procedure can safely remove the cancer while preserving urinary continence and erectile function.

What to Expect with Urologic Surgery
  • A doctor holding a clipboard discusses surgery with a patient.

    Preparing for Surgery

Before your procedure, your surgeon will provide detailed instructions about how to prepare. In most cases, you will need to stop eating and drinking the night before your surgery and may need to stop certain supplements or medications. On the day of your surgery, we will help you feel as comfortable as possible before heading to the operating room.

  • Surgeons in PPE work on a patient in the operating room.

    During Your Procedure

When you are in the operating room, our team will give you anesthesia (pain medicine that puts you to sleep). We monitor you continuously to keep you safe and comfortable.

  • A female nurse smiles at a male patient recovering from surgery.

    Recovery

When your surgery is complete, you will wake up in the recovery room with our nursing staff nearby. Depending on your surgery, you may go home the same day or stay overnight in the hospital. We inform you of your progress and prepare you for a smooth transition home.

Home Care

Your recovery at home is a key part of your overall healing. These guidelines will help you recover as quickly and safely as possible:

Incision Care

Keep your incision clean and dry. Change any bandages according to your discharge instructions and avoid submerging the area in water until your surgeon says it's safe.

Pain Control

Our team will explain when to take your pain medication. Try to take it on time, before pain comes back. You may need to avoid driving while taking your medication.

Rest

Your body needs time and energy to heal, so rest as much as you can. Your surgeon will let you know when you can return to work and other activities.
