Certain conditions don’t always cause symptoms, and some disease risk factors increase as you get older. That’s why it’s important to get regular preventive health screenings as recommended by your provider.
This annual preventive visit often includes a physical exam and mental health assessment. Your provider will check for high blood pressure and order blood tests to look for conditions like high cholesterol and diabetes. These conditions increase your risk for heart and vascular conditions.
Annual mammograms are recommended starting at age 40. Women with dense breasts may want to also consider getting a breast ultrasound or an MRI. We’re a regional leader in breast cancer care. If needed, you receive advanced breast cancer treatments at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Pap tests are a type of gynecological screening that detects abnormal cells in the cervix before they develop into cervical cancer. This female reproductive system cancer affects the lower part of your uterus. Your age and risk factors determine how frequently you need Pap tests. If needed, we provide expert cervical cancer treatments.
Colorectal cancer screenings typically start at age 45. You may get tested earlier if you have risk factors, such as a family history of colon cancer. We offer the latest colorectal cancer treatments.
You may get blood tests to check for infectious diseases, such as hepatitis C, HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Women 65 and older, as well as younger women with certain risk factors, need bone density scans to check for osteoporosis. We offer advanced dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans to measure bone loss.
