We offer a robust series of grand rounds, lectures, seminars, research symposia and special events as part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in dermatology education, research and patient care.

These gatherings serve as a dynamic forum where faculty, trainees and distinguished guest speakers come together to exchange knowledge, present complex clinical cases and explore the latest advances in dermatologic science and treatment.

Through these events, we foster collaboration, encourage critical discussion and highlight innovations that continue to shape the future of dermatology.

An Yen Lectureship

An Yen (c) UC Regents. All rights reserved.In 2022, An Yen, M.D., established an annual lectureship to support the education and professional growth of residents, staff and the community. The An Yen Lectureship recognizes excellence in dermatologic education and provides a forum for regional specialists to share ideas and strengthen collaboration.

Yen specializes in general and surgical dermatology, with expertise in excisions, cosmetic reconstruction and Mohs micrographic surgery. He completed his medical degree at Xuzhou Medical College in China, followed by an internal medicine residency at Loyola University Chicago and dermatology residency training at UC San Diego. In addition to his clinical work, Yen serves as a volunteer clinical professor at UC Davis and is the founder of the International Dermatology Education Charitable Organization.

Novy Lectureship in Dermatology

Frederick G. Novy, Jr. (c) UC Regents. All rights reserved.The Novy Lectureship in Dermatology was established in 1975 through a generous gift from Frederick G. Novy, Jr., M.D., and his wife, made in December 1973. With their donation, the Novys aimed to create a permanent endowment to support a lectureship program in dermatology and related fields within the Department of Dermatology in the school of medicine at the University of California. This gift established the Novy Fund for Visiting Scholars in Dermatology, which continues to support distinguished lectures and foster academic exchange in the field.

Teri McGillis Lectureship

Susan Teri McGillis, M.D. (c) UC Regents. All rights reserved.This lecture series is made possible by the philanthropy of Susan Teri McGillis, M.D., a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon with more than two decades of experience in dermatology. A UC Santa Barbara graduate in cellular biology and art history, she earned her medical degree and completed her dermatology residency at UC Davis, where she served as chief resident. She went on to become the first UC Davis resident to pursue a Mohs fellowship, later building her academic career at the Cleveland Clinic with a focus on skin cancer treatment, cosmetics and laser procedures.

In 2007, McGillis transitioned to private practice in Pennsylvania, continuing to provide advanced surgical dermatology care to her community. Internationally recognized, she has lectured in countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil and Germany, and has also served as guest editor of Dermatologic Clinics. Career highlights include treating the Saudi Royal Family and contributing to the advancement of surgical dermatology through education and philanthropy.

McGillis remains closely connected to UC Davis, serving on the steering committee for the Dermatology Alumni Society and supporting its philanthropic efforts.

Our Basic Science Seminars provide a forum for exploring the fundamental science that underpins dermatology. The series brings together researchers, clinicians and trainees to share discoveries, spark discussion and promote new approaches to improving skin health.
