Philosophy of Care

I approach each patient as if I were the patient. I try to understand what their expectation is from surgery, and provide the best advice I can on how reasonable their expectations are.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Jurkovich has a 30+ year history of treating the most severely injured trauma patients, managing their critical care illness, and addressing their operative repair needs. He also has an interest and expertise in general surgery in the broadest sense, with a particular interest in surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Jurkovich has looked extensively at some of the major problems in trauma, including new methods of measuring outcome in trauma patients, the role of hypothermia in trauma, alcohol and injury, the immune-inflammatory response to injury, and nutritional support in the critically injured, and the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder on recovery from injury.
