Philosophy of Care

I believe strongly in shared decision-making between the surgeon and patient. In hand surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery, there are generally multiple options available for treatment of any given problem; I see my role as helping the patient understand the pros and cons of each option to arrive at the solution that is the best fit for the patient's unique needs and goals. I am also committed to treating every patient I see with utmost compassion, consideration, and respect.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Sood is a fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgery. He cares for the whole spectrum of upper-extremity conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and forearm ranging from the most routine to most complex, including traumatic injuries and post-oncologic reconstruction. He also has a specific interest in both upper- and lower-extremity amputee care and performs procedures such as targeted muscle innervation (TMR) and regenerative peripheral nerve interface (RPNI) creation to mitigate phantom-limb pain and enhance control of myoelectric protheses.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Sood's research is centered on improving clinical outcomes in hand surgery through epidemiologic analysis of large clinical data sets using informatics methods such as machine-learning algorithms. In addition to studying a broad range of common hand conditions and procedures, he has a specific interest in amyloidosis screening during carpal tunnel release.
