  • Emmanuel A. Ameh, M.B.B.S., F.W.A.C.S., F.A.C.S.

    Emmanuel Ameh is Chief Consultant Pediatric Surgeon and Professor of Surgery at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Nigeria.  Ameh has been at the forefront of advocacy for children’s surgery in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa for which he co-founded and served as Chair of the Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS). He has also served on multiple committees, including the WHO Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical advocacy group and the West African College of Surgeons Surgical Plan Committee as well as the lead of the workforce, training, and education working group for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery.

  • Ally Mwanga, M.D.

    Ally Mwanga, M.D. is a the Head of Department of Surgery at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Science. He is a hepatobiliary surgeon specializing in treatment of malignant gastrointestinal conditions.  Mwanga earned his medical degree and later a Master's in medicine from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Science. His research interests include cancer outcomes, surgical education, and capacity building.

  • Adam Gyedu, M.D.

    Adam Gyedu, M.D. is the Head of Department of Surgery and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. He is a fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and a member of international societies, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the international surgical society.  Gyedu's research interests include surgery capacity building, trauma surgery systems, and global surgery.

  • N’da Marcelin Homian, M.D.

    N'da Homian, M.D. is a Medical Oncologist at University Hospital Medical Center at Treichville (CHU Treichville) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. He has dedicated his career to mitigating the cancer burden in Côte d'Ivoire by advocating for early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment programs to improve patient outcomes.  Homian’s research focuses onthe treatment of Breast and Gastric Cancer in Côte d'Ivoire. He has been a member of the ASCO expert panel responsible for developing guidelines on the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

  • Kathryn Chu, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., F.A.S.C.R.

    Kathryn Chu, M.D. is the Director of the Center for Global Surgery at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She completed her medical degree and residency training in surgery at UCSF.  Chu also earned a Master’s degree in public health as a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  Chu’s research interests include surgery capacity building, colorectal surgery, and global health.

  • Kallie Vallecillo

    Kallie is the Director of Clinica Esperanza, a non-profit medical clinic that provides low-cost healthcare to 28,000 people annually in Roatán and serves as a main primary care clinic in Roatan, Honduras. Through this partnership, the UCD Center for Global Surgery will undertake a pilot program to validate a symptomatic screening tool to identify patients at high risk for gastric cancer and appropriate for urgent referral for upper endoscopy.
