Your labor and delivery experience should be as unique and special as your family. At UC Davis Health, you receive expert care from one of the country’s best maternity hospitals, as rated by Newsweek. U.S. News & World Report also ranks our OB-GYN program among the top 50 in the nation.
Our dedicated childbirth experts provide leading care for routine and high-risk pregnancies. Patients who come to our birth center benefit from private birthing suites, customized birthing plans, advanced pain management, dedicated breastfeeding support and more. We help you have a safe labor and delivery and an easier postpartum recovery.
At our birth center, we help you welcome your baby into the world in a safe, warm environment. You may give birth in one of our private, spacious birthing suites. We also provide gentle C-section services. We help make your first moments with your baby even more special.
You and your birth partner can enjoy the comfort and privacy of one of our large birthing suites. During labor, wireless fetal monitoring gives you the freedom to move around and use our in-room birthing balls or squat bars. After delivery, you get to bond with your little one as your family stays together in our suite. We also provide celebratory gourmet meals for new parents. Take a virtual tour or read our brochure.
We offer a range of birth plan options to accommodate each family’s distinct backgrounds and wishes. Our team listens to you and works to safely provide the childbirth experience you envision. Birth plan options may include natural childbirth with the aid of a doula, vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC), gentle C-sections and delayed cord clamping with or without umbilical cord blood collection.
UC Davis Medical Center is a designated Baby-Friendly® hospital. Our board-certified lactation consultants help new moms succeed at breastfeeding. We encourage all families to room-in with their babies and have lots of skin-to-skin contact. Our nurses practice couplet care, in which a nurse cares for both the mother and baby in the same room.
We are among an elite group of medical centers worldwide to earn the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Center of Excellence designation for our obstetric anesthesia services. This recognition reflects the high-level pain relief care you receive during and after childbirth.
Certain health conditions can affect moms-to-be or unborn babies, leading to pregnancy and childbirth complications. These high-risk pregnancies need specialized care. High-risk OB-GYNs (maternal-fetal medicine physicians) work closely with neonatologists (newborn specialists) and other providers. You receive expert care under one roof that minimizes complications.
We have a level 4 neonatal intensive care unit (the highest level NICU) for newborns who need advanced medical care.
As Sacramento's No. 1 hospital, you'll benefit from unique advantages in primary care and specialty care. This includes prevention, diagnosis and treatment options from experts in 150 specialties.
To refer a patient, you can submit an electronic referral form or call.

Our online maternity classes make it easy for you to learn more about childbirth and breastfeeding from the convenience of your home.
Our prepared childbirth class explains what to expect during labor and delivery. You’ll learn relaxation and breathing techniques, as well as pain management options.
Our breastfeeding class provides tips for nursing moms. It also addresses common breastfeeding questions and problems.
Your hospital stay after childbirth depends on your delivery (vaginal or C-section), as well as the health of you and your baby. Our team provides expert postpartum care, including pain relief, while you and your baby bond.
After leaving the hospital, you can speak with a UC Davis registered nurse for answers and guidance about caring for your infant. We can also see you up to 6 weeks after your baby’s birth for any maternal concerns.
Moms experiencing breastfeeding issues can speak to a lactation specialist while in the hospital. We also have support groups for nursing moms.
Contact your provider immediately if you notice signs of infection. You may experience symptoms such as fever, severe pain, vomiting and trouble breathing. Excessive vaginal bleeding or discharge is also a concern. If you had a C-section or episiotomy, watch your incision site for itching, swelling, bleeding or pus.
