Men are less likely than women to get an annual physical. They also tend to put off seeing a provider when symptoms of a condition begin. This increases the chances of developing a preventable illness or being able to treat one early.
Men have a higher incidence of injuries and deaths from accidents. These are often the result of behaviors like reckless driving, high-adrenaline sports or driving under the influence.
Men are more likely to smoke and drink alcohol. Research links these lifestyle habits to a range of health conditions like coronary artery disease (CAD) and cancer.

Providers recommend colon cancer screenings for men starting at age 50. If you are younger than 50 with a family history of colon cancer, talk with your provider about early screening.
The risk of diabetes increases as you age. By age 45, you should have regular blood tests to check for type 2 diabetes.
Screenings for lung cancer should begin by age 50 if you have a history of smoking. Smoking is strongly linked to lung cancer.
You should be screened for prostate cancer starting at age 50. Discuss early screening with your provider if you have a family history of prostate cancer and are younger than 50.
