Dean Stephen Cavanagh and the entire School of Nursing leadership team emphasize the importance of the UC Davis Principles of Community to achieve the school’s vision for optimal health for all

Today we kick off Principles of Community 2022. It’s a time that we reflect upon our aspirational statement that embodies our commitment to serving the needs of a global society comprising all people and a multiplicity of identities.

In his email kicking off the celebration, Hendry Ton, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UC Davis Health, reminds us that “In the hallways of UC Davis Health, we’re developing and retaining diverse employees through education, training, events, community-building, and so many other intentional efforts to enhance the employee experience as well as in our community.”

Here at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, these principles reflect the ideals we seek to uphold both in our school’s Diversity Statement and our Team Agreements.

Our school is an exemplar at UC Davis for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion issues — through our mission, vision and values to the ways in which we work with one another and collaborate with our community. We are grateful that each and every member of our school pledges responsibility and accountability to maintain and raise awareness of these issues and challenges every day of the year. We are proud of our team agreements and the ways in which you uphold these eight key pillars of working together effectively as a team and enhancing our school culture.

If we are to fulfill our vision of optimal health and health equity for all, we must optimize the way we work together. If we hope to meet our strategic plan’s goal to create an environment where all can thrive, we look to strong teamwork, mentorship and resources for everyone within our community.

As a leadership team, we work to leverage our unique strengths to advance the school’s mission in a way that measurably impacts our collective communities. Each of you has a role in that and we look forward to partnering with you this week and the 51 other weeks of each year to advance health, transform health care and ignite bold system change locally, nationally and globally.

We hope you’ll find time in your schedule to participate in at least one of the many events planned for the next few weeks. From today’s virtual kick off at 11:30 a.m. and a virtual healing circle tomorrow evening to Thursday’s lunchtime Women’s Heart Talk to Friday afternoon’s virtual Trans Allyship Workshop, there are many ways to join in community together.

Thank you for all you do for our students, our patients, our communities and each other. Happy 2022 Principles of Community celebration!
