P.A. student with preceptor and patient
Preceptors play a crucial role in preparing future nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis recognizes long-standing and exceptional preceptors as Advanced Preceptor Affiliates. These dedicated health care providers mentor and guide School of Nursing students in diverse clinical and community settings, offering them real-world learning experiences. UC Davis Health integrates clinical preceptorship with classroom education, preparing students for careers as advanced practice providers.

The School of Nursing welcomes preceptors from urban and rural community settings across California to support physician assistant (PA) and nurse practitioner (NP) students and fellows. Interested preceptors may complete the online Advanced Preceptor Affiliate questionnaire. All clinical sites are evaluated and approved by School of Nursing representatives.

This partnership strengthens community ties and fosters long-term relationships with volunteer preceptors, reinforcing the School of Nursing’s commitment to high-quality clinical education. The appointment provides a valuable opportunity for health care professionals to contribute their expertise in teaching and mentorship on a voluntary basis.
