May 15 — Professor publishes study multi-agent AI system
Shu-Fen Wung, a professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, published “Responsible AI for Personalized Patient Education and Engagement Across Medical Conditions: Leveraging Multi-Agent LLMs, Ambient Technology, and NotebookLM — A Case Study in Diabetes Education and Limb Preservation” in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association. Shu-Fen and her interdisciplinary team have developed a multi-agent AI system that uses ambient technology and NotebookLM to automate clinical documentation. This system also provides personalized and empathetic educational content for patients. Focusing on diabetes care and limb preservation, their work demonstrated that the AI system generates accurate clinical notes and engaging, podcast-style visit summaries, free from AI hallucinations. This innovative approach aims to enhance patients' health literacy and adherence by replacing traditional, impersonal paper brochures with conversational, actionable health information.
