Shamika Brooks, D.N.P., F.N.P.-C.
Health Sciences Assistant Professor
Shamika Brooks is a health sciences assistant professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. She serves as lead faculty in the Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program and as the Assistant Program Director for the nurse-led mobile clinic, integrating her teaching with direct patient care in the community.
Brooks’ clinical specialty is family practice and infectious disease, with a strong emphasis on HIV care and communicable disease management. Previously certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist, Brooks has dedicated her career to advancing culturally responsive HIV care and bridging clinical practice with public health. Her area of focus in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program centered on evaluating a county health department’s street medicine program, reflecting her commitment to serving marginalized populations through innovative care models.
Prior to joining the UC Davis School of Nursing, Brooks served as Director of Communicable Disease at a county health department in Washington State, where she led outbreak response, HIV/STI programs and public health nursing workforce development. She has also held an assistant clinical faculty appointment at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she taught graduate-level nursing students, and has practiced extensively as a family nurse practitioner and HIV specialist.
Brooks earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, her Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) from Maryville University, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Washington State University. She has presented at state-level conferences in Texas on African American cultural considerations in HIV care and remains committed to advancing nurse practitioner education, clinical training, and health equity through professional engagement and scholarship.
