Associate Dean for Research and Professor

Jennifer Lingler is associate dean for Research and a professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. As associate dean, Lingler strives to build nursing research capacity within the school the university’s health science community. Her primary teaching responsibility is in the school’s PhD program, where she leads a seminar on proposal development and advises students. Her research focuses on ethical implications of late life cognitive impairment, including provider-patient communication and the responsible return of biomarker testing results in Alzheimer’s disease.

An internationally recognized expert on the return of AD biomarker test results to patients and families, Lingler’s research has been cited in influential guidelines on the clinical use of AD biomarkers and she has served on numerous national working groups on this and related topics.

Prior to joining the School of Nursing, Lingler served as a tenured professor and vice chair for research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, Department of Health and Community Systems. She also held secondary appointments in the School of Medicine’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Department of Psychiatry, and was faculty at the Center for Bioethics and Health Law. In addition, she served as director of Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement and co-leader of the Research Education Component at the University’s NIA-funded Alzheimer Disease Research Center.

Lingler earned her BSN at Case Western Reserve University and holds an MSN in Nursing, MA in Bioethics, and PhD in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. Lingler completed postdoctoral research training in Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Her research as PI has been funded by the National Institute on Aing, National Institute for Nursing Research, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Alzheimer’s Association, Adira Foundation, Brookdale Foundation, John A. Hartford Foundation and Neuroscience Nursing Foundation. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. In 2018, Lingler was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Lingler is currently serving as the inaugural Deputy Editor of Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Behavior and Socioeconomics of Aging (BSEA).
