Marla Shauer, Ph.D., C.N.M.
Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor
Marla Shauer is a health sciences assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. A certified nurse midwife, Shauer’s provider background spans 23 years and includes inpatient, outpatient and freestanding birth center care for women and people seeking reproductive care, gynecologic, postpartum and birth care across the U.S.

She utilizes a collaborative, midwifery lens, as well as intersectional feminist frameworks, to perform qualitative exploration into birth stories and key aspects of birthing peoples’ experiences.
Shauer is a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at the School of Nursing with a Designated Emphasis in Feminist Theory and Research from UC Davis. She received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
