Military Surgical Training Program

Dr. Blaisdell was an advocate for military service members and the veterans of Northern California throughout his career. In keeping with this tradition, we have implemented a robust military surgical training within the Department of Surgery.

The flagship program is our integrated general surgery residency. In program we accept a categorical active duty US Air Force resident into our program through the military match. The residents are fully integrated into the residency program and have the opportunity to perform research at David Grant USAF Medical Center after their third clinical year.

We have also developed a preflight surgery surgical training track designed for 1st year military residents who are entering into flight surgery. The objective of the program is to focus on surgical diseases in general surgery, burns, urology, ENT and neurosurgery that are commonly encountered during deployment. Residents match into this program through the military match.

Also, within the general surgery residency we have other specialties which are Cardiothoracic and Vascular that also accept one PGY-1 level categorical military resident.
