The curriculum for senior medical students on the vascular surgery service provides a broad exposure to the specialty and UC Davis training programs. The elective provides is tailored to the educational needs of students considering residency training in vascular surgery or a related specialty.

Students on this rotation will learn:

  • Physical examination of the vascular patient
  • Outpatient assessment of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders
  • Inpatient management, including surgical critical care
  • Vascular laboratory operations
  • Use of point of care ultrasound
  • Open and endovascular procedures

The schedule has hands-on learning activities, including:

  •  Procedural training with high-fidelity endovascular simulator
  • Diagnostic use of Doppler ultrasound and vascular laboratory testing

Military Medical Students

The vascular surgery residency has a unique military-civilian collaboration, combining the educational resources of the UC Davis Health System and the David Grant USAF Medical Center (DGMC) vascular surgery residency.  Active duty military students in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) or reserve officers in the Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) may schedule elective rotations at DGMC (located on Travis AFB).

USUHS students can request an elective at DGMC through the USUHS scheduling office.

HPSP students should submit an Active Duty Tour (ADT) Request no later than 90 days prior to the requested dates to:
