Edna Esquer, Ph.D., F.N.P.-B.C.
Assistant Clinical Professor
Edna Esquer is an assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. Esquer serves as a health sciences clinical faculty member with a clinical rotation at Sacramento County Health Center, assisting and mentoring Doctor of Nursing Practice—Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP) students in achieving their educational requirements and career goals.
For over two decades, Esquer has been a family nurse practitioner, dedicating her efforts to caring for the medically disadvantaged populations of the California US-Mexican Border. Her passions include health policy, global nursing projects and advancing the role of nurses in low- and middle-income countries. She has collaborated and engaged in multiple community partnerships in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and mobile medical units in hard-to-reach regions in California.
Prior to joining the School of Nursing at UC Davis, Esquer served as a Postdoctoral fellow in the National Clinician Scholars Program at University of California, San Francisco, where she established a research collaboration with Partners in Health (PIH) Compañeros en Salud (CES) in Chiapas, Mexico, and at The National Autonomous University of Mexico School of Nursing, a public research university in Mexico City. Currently, she is involved in community engagement research projects focusing on global nursing health equity initiatives, the role of nursing in rural Chiapas, Mexico and improving health outcomes in patients affected by chronic disease.
Esquer earned her associate degree in Nursing at Imperial Valley College in Imperial, Calif., her bachelor’s in nursing science at National University in San Diego and her master’s degree in nursing science and Doctor of Philosophy in nursing science from the University of San Diego. She is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), the Western Institute of Nursing Research (WIN), and the California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP).
