The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks innovative and highly motivated master’s-degree or doctorally prepared physician assistants (P.A.s) to join the faculty at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California.

A dynamic team of interprofessional faculty focuses on preparing new primary-care providers, including physician assistants, especially for underserved areas. Nearly 60% of UC Davis P.A. graduates work in primary care. Launched with a vision to advance health through leadership, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks P.A. faculty to collaborate with faculty from multiple disciplines and further this vision to prepare clinicians who deliver care as members of health care teams. Faculty fully participate in the development of the school’s high-impact and interprofessional programs.

Physician assistant faculty provide a combination of clinical care and clinical teaching activities, including didactic instruction, clinical skills lab instruction, curriculum development and assessment and coordination of course activities related to the didactic and clinical phases of the program.

Part-time and full-time, non-tenured positions at the assistant and associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series and full-time Clinical X Series are available at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited children’s hospital, and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Practice locations include UC Davis Health Medical Center, UC Davis department and primary care network clinics, Sacramento County clinics, local FQHCs and other clinical sites.

Teaching responsibilities

Responsibilities include working in collaboration with the program directors and program faculty to ensure quality program curriculum and instruction in the didactic phase of the program. Duties include course management, teaching, skills labs, student advisement, and student formative and summative evaluation. Responsibilities may also include participation in student remediation, test writing and analysis, program admissions, accreditation processes, and program assessment that includes service on committees essential to the physician assistant program and school’s functioning.

Criteria

A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series or Clinical X Series is evaluated by the following criteria, which is appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on teaching experience and also according to the needs of the school and the individual’s responsibilities in the specific discipline. The four criteria are:

  1. Teaching
  2. Professional competence and activity
  3. Scholarly or creative activity
  4. University and public service

Qualifications

Basic qualification: a master’s degree or doctoral degree (e.g. EdD, PhD) is required. The candidate must meet the following qualifications, depending on profession:

  1. Graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program with active PA national certification.
  2. Candidates must have worked a minimum of three years as a licensed PA.
  3. Must be comfortable in a highly interactive teaching/learning environment that includes collaborative teaching, significant faculty/student interaction, and strong clinical integration.
  4. Must demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position at the assistant level is $106,900 to $119,800, at the associate level the range is $133,300 to $147,500. This position may include membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The salary range listed is for base compensation only and may be adjusted depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range does not include variable compensation and is subject to the individual department compensation plan.
