POSITION DESCRIPTION: The UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing continues to grow and seeks innovative physician assistant educators to join the faculty of the Master of Health Services — Physician Assistant Studies Degree Program. The faculty at this dynamic school have a unique opportunity to participate in the development of high-impact and interprofessional educational programs.

Up to three full-time and four part-time, academic positions at the assistant rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor non-tenure series are available in Sacramento, California. Faculty in this series play a key role in the further development of the interdisciplinary and interprofessional curricula for the physician assistant and nurse practitioner master’s-degree programs. Appointees to this series are expected to engage in teaching, clinical care activities, dissemination of scholarship and provide university and public service.

Successful candidates should provide evidence of high-caliber performance in classroom and/or clinical instruction and student mentoring. A demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in promoting the education of students from under-represented groups is preferred.

The Master of Health Services — Physician Assistant Studies Degree Program prepares graduates to deliver care as physician assistants. In alignment with the school's vision to advance health, a primary goal of the physician assistant program is to improve the availability of culturally relevant primary care to underserved populations and educate clinicians to deliver care as a member of a health care team. The mission of the physician assistant program is to educate health-care professionals to deliver care as a member of a health-care team, and to improve the availability of culturally relevant, primary health care in underserved populations throughout California.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:  All candidates must possess physician assistant certification and possess or be eligible for licensure in the state of California. The minimum academic requirement is a master’s degree. A doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DHSc, etc) in a health-related field is preferred. Applicants must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.

Preference given to candidates who can teach in one or more of the following areas:
Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, Renal, Anatomy/Physiology/Pathophysiology and/or Pediatrics.

Each candidate must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program
  2. Possess national certification as physician assistant
  3. Eligible for allied-staff privileges
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of students and creative teaching experience in an academic institution
  5. Excellent communication skills to effectively work with students, staff, faculty, patients and other professional colleagues as an effective interdisciplinary team member
  6. Ability to adhere to university policies and procedures
  7. Experience working with diverse populations is desired
