The Summer Health Institute for Nursing Exploration and Success program (SHINES) is a summer program that prepares local high school students (or recently graduated adults) to become informed about pathways to a career in nursing. Research shows that rural and underserved communities are healthier when the clinicians who serve them look like them and are a part of their community. SHINES works with underrepresented high school students (or recently graduated adults) interested in nursing and other health care careers.
