Applications open now for Fall 2024 program

The Nurse Faculty Residency is an opportunity for individuals who possess a master’s degree, are currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to a master’s degree program to become nurse faculty residents (NFRs) and receive job training and skill development for a teaching career in Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master’s Entry in Nursing (MEPN), or advanced practice provider (NP or PA) programs.

About the Nurse Faculty Residency

This program emphasizes:

  • Collegial relationships

Across 12 months, participants will complete the following:

  1. Work toward their master’s degree, which may include nursing, other select health related fields, administration or education (if not already master's prepared)
    1. An online master's degree program is preferred to ensure residents fully participate in the teaching experience.
  2. Three Health Professions Educator courses and applying their knowledge to prepare class lessons, syllabi, grading and participating in other active learning sessions with students
  3. Complete active learning sessions including the California Simulation Alliance training such as implicit bias, Observed Structured Clinical Examination development (OSCE) development and assessment, simulation and debriefing as well as other skill acquisition activities

Upon completion of the program, participants will be prepared to take the national certification examination and be better trained for faculty positions.

Up to 7 NFRs each year will be admitted to the 12-month program at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. The program will train 20 participants enrolled over the next four years.
